Mark Roper Marketing Manager/Social Media Marketing Trainer

I have always had a proactive entrepreneurial spirit that guided me towards a career in marketing as I saw it as a logical direction to assist me in developing my own enterprises. In my first year after completing high school I commenced study in entertainment marketing while also starting my own event promotions business, working for an independent record label and being part of considerable event projects. Social Media was still very fresh back in 2006 and as young marketing students we were excited about the possibilities. Back then Social Media Marketing was not very well understood and was left out of our course content. Even to this day most marketing courses tend to leave out a detailed approach to social media marketing which I find absurd as both a marketing trainer and consultant as Social Media tools have always been vital to every marketing project I have been involved in since 2006.

Since 2006 I have been part of starting many different businesses and have worked as a freelance consultant and partner for many various start up projects. I enjoy working as a trainer as I like to transfer the skills and knowledge that I have accumulated over the years to assist in empowering my students in achieving their dreams. I teach both from the perspective of working within a large organisation, working as a freelance marketing consultant and from an entrepreneurs view of developing ideas into reality. The Diploma of Social Media Marketing is the best entry into a marketing profession as it teaches the skills needed to undertake marketing initiatives straight away and from day 1 my students will be learning how to express themselves in order to gain the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to make their dreams a reality.

I take a lot of enjoyment out of bringing the real world into my classroom or taking my classroom into the real world as in this industry this is the best way to learn about the practical nature of being a Social Media Marketeer. I love diversity and hearing the opinions and views of my students. Empowering them to use the digital world for their advantage is something that I take a lot of pride in.
